The ray part in Xylem is called wood ray, and the ray part in phloem is called phloem ray. Due to the difference in luster between wood rays and other tissues, different patterns are displayed on three sections. Wood rays appear as radial lines on the transverse plane, parallel short lines perpendicular to the annual rings on the radial plane, and parallel short lines parallel to the wood texture on the tangential plane.

The wood rays of coniferous trees are not well-developed, and they are not obvious on the transverse and chordal sections when observed with the naked eye or magnifying glass; The wood ray of Broad-leaved tree is very developed, but the width and height of wood ray of different species are different. The width and height of the wood ray can be displayed on the chord plane, with the direction perpendicular to the wood texture being the width and the direction along the wood texture being the height.
